The library is a safe space for all stories and ideas! We are a book sanctuary, a place that protects the freedom to read.
For as long as there have been books, people have been trying to control what others read. Book challenges are increasing at public and school libraries in North America. Does it surprise you that someone would try to stop you from reading certain books? Everybody has the right to seek information from different points of view. That's why it's important to celebrate Freedom to Read Week.
How can you take a stand against censorship? This year, we have limited edition Freedom to Read library cards and tote bags. Visit your library with a grown-up to get one! And of course you can exercise your right to read — not just this week, but all year round!
