Got a new year's resolution for 2022? Maybe you want to learn how to play the banjo, speak Pirate or draw your own comic book. Or just eat more broccoli and Brussels sprouts.
We can't help you with the broccoli and Brussels sprouts, but we do have books! So how about taking the TPL Reading Challenge? It's simple: you read 12 books in 12 different categories. Track your reading, and at the end of the year you can submit your list online for a chance to win a prize pack!
This is a great time to try something new and choose books you don't usually read. Here are this year's categories:
- A book about time
- A book by an author from Toronto
- A book about family
- A book of poetry
- A book about a refugee experience
- An illustrated book by an Indigenous creator
- A book about mental health
- A book by a trans or non-binary author
- A book about a city
- A coming-of-age story by a BIPOC (Black, Indigenous and People of Colour) author
- A book about magic
- A book you read just because (hmm… you can totally pick a book about vegetables for this category)
Not sure what to read? We're here to help! We'll give recommendations throughout the year, so keep checking back. You can also ask your friendly neighbourhood librarian, or use NoveList, an online database of reading suggestions. Happy reading and good luck!
