Passing gas can be a rooting, tooting good time! Sometimes farts are loud and silly. Other times they can be silent and stinky.
So why do people fart? There's gas in our small intestine, stomach and colon. Farts occur when there is a buildup of gas in the digestive system and it releases through our butts.
Have you heard the rhyme "Beans, beans, the magical fruit, the more you eat, the more you toot?" Certain foods can create gas within your body. Aside from beans, some other foods that can make us fart include onions, garlic, milk, broccoli and kale. Fructose sugar found in fruits like apples, mangos and pears can also cause gas.
Another reason is simply swallowing air. When we do regular activities like sleeping and breathing, we swallow air. All the swallowed air gets trapped in our digestive system and is released as a fart.
Did you know that humans can fart 12 to 25 times a day? Farting is a normal and natural part of your amazing digestive system. What a gas!
