Visit the Wonderful World of Fairies

Close your eyes and imagine a fairy. Did you picture a small, human-like creature with insect wings? A character from a book or a movie?

Stories going back centuries describe fairies in different ways. Some are tiny enough to fit inside a flower, and some are 14 feet tall! Some have wings and some don't. The idea of little winged fairies didn't become popular until the Victorian era. Explore our booklist to learn more about these magical beings! Or download our free colouring pages (PDF 7.5 MB).

Want to go on a fairy scavenger hunt and try on a pair of wings? You're invited to visit an enchanting exhibit at the library. Mischief and Mirth: The Wonderful World of Fairies is on display at the Toronto Reference Library right now. Come see some very cool art, rare books, and beautiful costumes on loan from the National Ballet of Canada. Bring your whole family for a weekend visit. Or give your teacher a fun class trip idea!

The exhibit runs until March 19. It's free to enter, but be warned: fairies love playing pranks on humans, and they say time passes differently in fairyland...
