All kids are welcome at the library! We are excited to share our new social story. It's called "My Visit to Toronto Public Library."
What is a social story? It's a picture book about an activity or situation. Sometimes new experiences can make us feel nervous or unsure. Reading a story about the activity helps us to know what to expect and to prepare. "My Visit to Toronto Public Library" describes things you can do in our branches, from choosing books to using a computer. We hope it can help everyone get ready for their visit.
People of all ages and abilities can use the story, including kids who have a disability or kids who are Deaf. The story is available in many different formats, like audio, American Sign Language and electronic Braille. Let a grown-up know about this story, so you can read, listen or watch together. Maybe you have a friend or classmate who will enjoy it, too!
You can also check out Disability: Read Up on It! It's a list of recommended books for kids with positive Deaf and disability representation. Happy reading!
