Potassium is a chemical element. Its taste can be described as metallic, bitter or salty. In fact, when it's combined with chloride (another chemical element), it becomes potassium chloride, a salt substitute.
Potassium is also an important mineral that's part of a healthy diet. It acts as an electrolyte in our bodies, which means it helps our cells absorb nutrients and get rid of waste. Plus, it helps with other body functions. Regulating blood pressure? Preventing the formation of kidney stones? Potassium is on it!
So it’s good for us to eat foods that are rich in potassium. These include yams, pinto beans, spinach, papaya, bananas and salmon… which means you can say that potassium can taste like these foods, too. Yum!
