Who put the hole in the donut?

Someone this week must have quite a sweet tooth, because the question this week is about a delicious sugary treat. This week a TPL Kids visitor wants to know who put the hole in the donut.

An answer to this yummy question can be found in Smithsonian Magazine. The article mentioned that a New England Ship captain named Hanson Gregory gave donuts its first hole. Captain Gregory was interviewed by the Boston Post where he mentioned that he used the top of a round tin pepper box to cut into the middle of the donuts.

Now that the wonder has been answered, it’s time to find some donuts.
